My daugher recently had an assignment where she had to diagram her family tree.
It was to include (among other things), names and dates of birth.
Gee...why not ask for Social Security numbers as well?
Zjabs made her lie on the tree. She didn't understand why, but I don't know who is going to see the tree (and besides- how is the teacher going to know UNLESS she tries to open a credit card in my name and then tells my daughter 'your father's mother's maiden name is wrong on the assignment....' in which case I believe my threatening to press charges should ensure she passes, regardless of factual errors in the tree).
Some would label me a paranoid, but I don't know what her teacher intends to do with this information, and it's information that could be used to negatively impact Zjabs.
(Though I did offer the teacher $100 for copies of the other students' trees. I know a guy in Russia that would give me $250 for that information).
