$47 and a ticket to Columbia

By now I am sure you've heard about the flap over the Secret Service making friends while in Columbia.

I am going to avoid making any remarks about the scandal itself beyond I'm shocked, shocked I say, shocked that guys who have wives at home who look like Hugo Chavez and have the personality of Fidel Castro (or maybe it's the other way around?) would want to unwind for an evening with the woman whose picture came out as being involved.

And I can imagine the guy who wouldn't pay the forty-seven dollars has gotten his butt kicked a few times by his peers (Imagine losing your job and marriage because some goofy guy in the office cheaped out over forty-seven dollars.  Yes, I know bad decisions were made and they have to be held accountable but I'm sure this sort of thing has been going on forever- to be the fall guy for hundreds of years of tomfoolery, all because some schlub couldn't part with his per diem....  And when I see the politicians pontificating- I chuckle to myself and wish there were some way that the skeletons in their closet would see the light of day- I'm sure a boy's night out in Columbia would be tame compared to the shenanigans some of them have done).

But I find it interesting- as of the date I'm writing this, six Secret Service agents have retired/quit/been fired over the scandal.

No one lost their jobs over 9/11.

I guess under it all, we are indeed a puritan country.  A few guys screwing around is MUCH WORSE than thousands dead.
