It was the 1977-78 school year. My mother drove me to school most mornings, and I remember two songs distinctly from that era-
Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffett....
and....
You Light Up My Life by Debby Boone.
And it seemed I heard those two songs every morning (thanks to the great Top-40 Adult Contemporary format my mother loved).
Jimmy Buffett has revealed that originally Elvis Presley was to record the song, but with his death, Jimmy recorded it (another tidbit you'll never get from rival music columns).
And I like a lot of Jimmy's music, but even Kiss has said he's over-merchandised- there is the radio station, restaurants, casino, sunglasses, outdoor furniture, frozen concoction makers, chips and salsa, seafood, beer, chicken wings, tequila, music label, Facebook game, margarita mix and shoes.....plus countless re-releases of songs!
Sometimes, you have to have the strength to say'no' (though the best sweet potato hash that Zjabs has ever had came at the Margaritaville in New Orleans).
