Zjabs, always an innovator, is now making his Saturday Music Column into a Saturday Media Column. Yet another first by Zjabs....
Television never played an important role in my life. I watched it growing up, but never lived for it. I've never paid a penny for cable or satellite television.
And thanks to the computer, one doesn't need to pay for it. I recently caught up on a series that I missed a few episodes of- the Rockford Files (catching up on the stuff I missed in the mid-1970s. At this rate, I should be watching the last episode of Moonlighting as I'm on my death bed....)
It's funny- I put the show on in a tab and then go about my work- so I actually WATCH almost nothing- I'm probably the only person in the world who treats the Rockford Files as a radio serial....
It's actually a pretty good series- though at some point I think I'd learn not to go to the docks....
And it is rather sad that he made $200 a day plus expenses in the mid-1970s (which actually was a fair amount of money)- heck, Zjabs doesn't make that now. How sad.... (write your legislator and ask him to give Zjabs a living wage).
I read where James Garner (Jim Rockford) did his own stunts and actually got a bit screwed up from doing them (ulcers, etc). And recall that they did the crazy car chases without wearing seat belts (AC sheds a tear every time- that's why we need laws- you MUST wear a seat belt if you're driving sixty down a side street and suddenly hit the brakes and gas at the same time and spin around- anything else would be foolish).
Sadly only the first three years are available for free, so it's onto a new series (at this point, I've watched Magnum PI, the first year of Newhart, and the White Shadow). I see most of the Rocky and Bullwinkle episodes are on there, but that may be a little too subversive- I wouldn't want to wind up on any lists.
