MOM

To all the super Moms, Grandmothers, Aunts, Sisters - whatever your roll - Happy Mother's Day to You!!  This piece I wrote sometime ago as a tribute to our Mom...and somehow the words never get old so decided to post it once again on Mother's Day - 2012,

FOR OUR MOM.....

She was the tinsel on our Christmas tree, each strand hung carefully,  one by one.

She was the Easter Bunny who hid jelly beans in the funniest places.

She was the green mashed potatoes on St. Paddy’s Day.

She was the April Fools jokes and the 4th of July Picnics.

She was the very special surprises on our birthdays and all the little 'for nothing's' she would come up with when you were feeling blue.

She was the wonderful hot summer days at our cottage, always watching whether we were racing down the lake in a hydroplane, trying to water ski, or needing to guide her five year old. who untied the row boat safely back to shore. Our mother did not swim.

She was endless potato salads and deviled eggs.

She was the costume maker and the spaghetti suppers with Aunt Shirl. She was the best vegetable beef soup ever.

She was the warm fireplace fire on a cold winter’s day; popcorn on a Sunday night. She was the person who said, “Sure they can stay, we have plenty for one more.

She was the one we turned to when our babies were sick.

She made us feel that we belong to something larger than ourselves. More than anyone, she made us a family. She was always there and she ALWAYS had time to listen.

Some of us called her Berenice, some of us called her Nana, some of us called her Sis, some of us called her MOM - All of us called her LOVE….
