EVERYTHING BUT THE KITCHEN SINK!!

from the house that looks like it blew up!

About a month or so ago, I mused away about my kitchen remodel.  A month has gone by so time for a progress report.  After searching and researching I made the decision I would go with high definition laminate which has a quartz/granite look at one half or more the cost.  Besides I don't want to deal with sealing and stains and dropping something which will immediately break into thousands of small slivers of glass, some of  which I will miss, thus cutting myself usually in the foot when I wander around barefoot.

I picked a very reliable company, actually the one who has supplied me with my two previous counter-tops.  I like the owner a lot.  One of those folksy town boys whom I believe I can trust.  I have in my small kitchen a feature which I love.  It is a corner window over my kitchen sink.  The counter which goes behind the sink has a shelf which goes up into the corner of the room, a focal point that I find unusual.  It is also a slight bit difficult to replicate - so my good old boy advised me that he would come, take out my current counter so a template could be made for the new counter.  Another reason this had to be done is when my house was built, counter tops were 25' wide.  Bet you did not know these days most are 24.  I am not surprised.  I have hardwood floors throughout the house, they were standard then...today they are a very expensive addition.

Anyhow back to the kitchen.  My contractor announced I would be without my kitchen sink for ' a couple of days.  Do you get nervous when a contractor announces something like that?  I kinda do.  First of all they took the counter, including my kitchen sink, on a Thursday.  I counted the 'couple of days' announcing to myself - there is no way I will see a new counter on Monday.  I was right again.

The good news is that I sort of planned for the loss of the sink buying frozen stuff that pass for a quick dinner, I even did the KFC trick.  I attempted to go on as though no kitchen sink is no big deal.  Wrong.

Have you ever thought about or noticed how often you go to your kitchen sink.  I am guessing somewhere between 20 and 25 times a day.  I was going to wash my porch one of these georgous days, but after a couple of buckets of hot water from the bathroom, I decided to wait.  I turned to gardening.  That worked pretty well except each time I came into the house to wash my hands -- not that it is a big deal -- again the bathroom parade.  I can see a path line on my rugs as I tramp through my house.  Sunday night I found some left over roast beef and gravy in the freezer.  Mmmm it looked good after a couple days of the frozen stuff so fool that I am, I made myself a good dinner.  That translates into at least three dirty pans and more dishes than I had used in the other three days of no kitchen sink.

Yesterday, I gave up.  I went to the casino.  Oh and for those of you keeping track, I lost.  As for the kitchen sink, the good old boy said maybe Wednesday, probably Thursday.  So much for a couple of days .

I keep thinking how wonderful it will look.  Watch for the update.... I think it is coming......
