Exactly.
It will happen eventually and the best thing we could have done was create one functioning democracy in Afghanistan rather than two disasters. Editor's Note: Iran wields great power in the region. This explains why they have been in Washington's cross hairs. When democracy shows up on the streets of Tehran, for all to see, it further undermines attempts, in this country, to paint Iranians as evil, thus limiting the ability to exercise the military option.

I was wondering when you'd slither in here and once again proclaim your love and devotion to your heartland.
You wrote: "When reform comes to Iran, it will come as a result of the democratic forces we have witnessed there this week, rather than by some hideous regime change battle plan cooked up by ideologues in a Washington think tank."
I actually agree that we should not "meddle" in the affairs of Iran. Are you aware of the speech that Jimmy Carter made and how it sparked a revolution in Iran some decades ago?
What happened was that Iran was in the midst of unrest that resulted in the current crew of intolerant extremists to seize control of their government, and then President Jimmy Carter issued a statement that said in English that "we wished to help Iran". The translation that Iranians heard on TV was that the US President said that "wished to meddle in their affiars".
Obama chice of that particular word was historically savvy (translation: his advisors and handlers aren't idiots) and very pointed on not coming down on the wrong side of history again.
The good news for Iranians is that they have an opportunity to revolt against tyranny and to break the chains that are currently enslaving them, and they can do it themselves... as it should be.
I would love to see the day that meant that Iran was a friend who did not export terror all over the Middle East, and who did supply arms to extremists from Lebanon to North Korea. All we need to do is stay out of it and let the people of Iran live their own version of the American Revolution! Editor's Note: I'd argue that the Islamic revolution ended some time ago, replaced by a more pragmatic foreign policy focused on supporting Shiite communities in the region. At this they have succeeded where the US has failed, largely because WE have exported terrorism, of a state sponsored variety, (see Iraq), while they moved on to a more effective approach. An example would be Hezbollah, a movement with legitimate political power in Lebanon, enjoying the support of millions.

Hezzbolah, the political terror group that operates in Lebanon, just got their behinds handed to them Timothy. It amazes me that you can call the country you live in sponsors of state terror, ignore states that sponsor terror in a demonstrable fashion, and then continue to live in the country you hate! Why not move Timothy? If Iran is so great, move there! I'll buy your ticket!!! I really will Timothy. If you will move to Iran and become an Iranian citizen I will buy your ticket!
Like I said in my earlier comment, Carter caused the Iranian Revolution to succeed, and Obama is rightfully keeping his nose out of it. Iran needs to fix Iran's problems and we need to communicate to them that they have our military left and right of them and we'd be delighted to start joint training exercises with an ally committed to ending global terrorism and who is committed to the ideals of freedom and democracy that all men have been endowed with by OUR Creator. Editor's Note: Some would say Kermit Roosevelt caused the Iranian Revolution; I'd agree.
