Government, How it starts, where it goes wrong

Servant or Master?

When the choice is between order and chaos, most of us will choose order.

The state of being between two or more persons can be orderly or contentious. When most of us recognize the condition causing contention we attempt to reach a common agreement on how to formalize this state of social interaction in such a way to bring order and avoid chaos.

Preferably this state of being is one reached by common agreement but often it is a matter of dominance.

This is the beginning of a society that can start with as little as two people, for example a couple or partnership sharing space and resources.

Rules or formalized specific understandings are social parameters that comprise a pact that contains the standards of behavior of the involved society.

The American government's pact is called the Constitution.

It serves as a standard or reference however all such formalized creations acquire a character of their own that left unchecked can change from servant to master that no longer serves the purpose of it's creators.

This has little to do with how large the servant becomes but much to do with how well the growth is controlled and the two way dynamics existing between governed and government.

Beyond the need for social order the governed discover the advantage of economies of scale and the synergy of multiplicity.

Also specialization becomes possible where every member of a society does not need to be totally self sufficient or reliant.

Again caution decrees that government not be allowed to become self serving at the primary expense of it's governed.

The basic fact remains that government of the people and by the people will perish if said people cease to exist.
