In lieu of comments today-update
The best laid plans
UPDATE:The WOTL comment area is still on the blink so I'll use this update to challenge E.W.s "foginess"
My experience with home telephones involved live operators who asked "number please" when you took the phone off the hook.
Dial systems were for the big city.
You forgot about television without pictures. We formed the pictures in our mind on radio serial programs.
I actually wrote a long column "From inkwells to internet."
Yes I took a penmanship class with actual inkwells where we dipped straight pens in them. Fountain pens were a luxury.
My school desk was fixed permanently in a row to the floor as was it's seat.
Dont forget the coal furnaces we had to shovel the ashes out of.
The scourge of polio threated me until the Salk vaccine was developed in the mid 1950's.
I was exposed to it the same day as a cousin.
His life after that exposure was in an "Iron Lung" breathing machine for many years. Today he uses a wheel chair and handicap equipped vehicle.
I prefer today to those "good old days"

It doesn't surprise me that our website transition is not happening according to plan. If a proposed change cant be pretested in a dry run Murphy's Law will usually rear its ugly head.
Some brief comments to posters:
TV converter boxes are considered almost idiot proof in their design. If any instructions come with them the setup is almost guaranteed.
From some of the reports I have heard reception can be spotty compared to the old VHF band. The only way to know is to try it.
I have no idea on how the conversion addressed the UHF channels.
To E.W. I consider myself a veteran gourmet regarding hot pepper dishes but have never made peace with the Habenero. I can handle Thai peppers but the Habeneros have been a challenge.
BTW They just executed "Chemical Ali" for using chemical warfare in gassing some of his own people in Iraq,
Next time try Bean-O that might help the digestive process a bit.
Re Superbowl. It is surprising I even am aware New Orleans is one of the contenders since I have almost zero interest in professional sports. I hope all the fans get their money's worth.
