Albert, have you never been to the South? I'm a "Mormon" (member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is preferred) and I live in the South. Here the Christian Fundamentalists have the power, in case you didn't know. All we have to do is run for office down here and anti-mormon literature and lectures pop out of the woodwork.

This isn't a civil rights issue. Marriage is not a right. It is a privilege. You don't have to be married to have sex, live together, have legal authority for another, or have children. Surprise! Unless of course you're religious.

Editor's Note: Yes Jonathan I lived in pre civil rights Missouri for three months in 1961. I AM also aware that it still is the bastion of Christian Fundamentalists whom I disagree with especially when they deny that LDS members are not Christians.

I would say that marriage is a religious issue since it is considered a sacrement in the Catholic Church. Even your own Mormon religion holds it in a high spiritual regard. Marriage is defined by religion as a spiritual union Some churches say between a man and woman. The Episcopalians do not. Would you deny them the right to practice their religion?

If you support the Biblical "Ceasar and Christ" passage then marriage is more rightfully not in the "Ceasar domain"

One or the other please.

The fact that government does license it is an anomaly since it does not license another religious sacrament , Baptism.

I do agree that government has the right and responsibility to regulate civil unions since they concern the legal and financial aspects of how two people interact.

In my reply to Jonatham I said that many Fundamentalists deny Mormons the right not to call themselves Christian.

I mistakenly used a double negative by adding the "not" which reversed the meaning I intended.

Many Fundamentalists deny that Mormons have the right TO call themselves Christian.

I hope I'm not the only one to congratulate you on your marriage but let me be the first to say best wishes for many happy years ahead.

Editor's Note: I have received a few on WOTL and one or two off site by WOTLErs.

I'm sure some will still suspect that you are me and I created your acomment as a fiction.

You still are welcome to e mail me if you are in our area. Mary likes animals. I surprised her with our visit to a friend who has large goats.

Thanks for the good thoughts and don't hesitate to comment on any of my old columns. Albert
