The Fundamental Disconnect Between Belief in God, and Choice and Accountability

originally 10/26/2010

There is a fundamental disconnect in certain parts of our society that is growing in greater prevalence day by day. While many believe there can be no such thing as a God in the Heavens, and if there were a God, He would not be interested in us or our little planet, Some of the well meaning non- believing intellectuals, take occasion to poke fun of those of us who believe we are accountable to God for our choices and actions.

By virtue of removing God from society and daily living, they also remove accountability and choice.

What they misunderstand, is God is real, and it is by his LAW... we experience consequences (good or bad) for our actions. It is this process of learning that creates growth that enables us to experience all the emotions from joy to sorrow. We can't do bad things and feel good about ourselves, regardless of belief system.

Choosing for ourselves, learning from the consequences is basic behavior 101. And- while we all know that B. F. Skinner's research merely proved the existence of the laws of reinforcement, he didn't create the laws.  That was God's doing.

This portion of our society denies the basic law of choice and accountability, and wants to deny the fact that we are better when we are accountable for our actions and choices.

If a parent refuses to allow a child learn from consequences, the child will continue to repeat the same mistakes as an adult. Bad behavior will be escalated, for no consequence or loss, is a pay off in and of itself.

Lessons not learned as a child, are much harder to learn as adults, for the penalties and consequences are much harsher.

Intervening in choice and accountability creates unhealthy dependency and a type of learned helplessness.

Which is the opposite of what God wants us to develop. For wickedness never was happiness. God is the same today- yesterday and forever. He does not waver, and the laws he has set forth, do not change, irrespective of what any one believes or doesn’t believe.
