Freeze Tag, Question of the Day and Engine Hoods (Against the Wind)
originally 3/17/2008

By the time anyone reads this, it will probably not even matter anymore. The world is spinning faster and faster. Speaking of spinning...

My world has been spinning at mach seven, and I'd like to play adult freeze tag and stop it for a while, and then try slow motion tag.

Freeze tag was pretty fun as a kid, but wouldn't it be fabulously entertaining if we could freeze life in long enough spurts to catch up. Freeze everything for a nap, or freeze Saturdays to get all of the house work done before noon. I would definitely sign up to freeze the price of groceries. Then I would freeze all the clocks that say I'm late. Then I'd freeze all the people that talk too slow, and come back to them later. Then I'd fast forward the laundry, and the dishes.

One of the songs of my youth, Bob Seger's "Against the Wind"

Well those drifters' days are past me now
I've got so much more to think about
Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in What to leave out

Against the wind
I'm still runnin' against the wind
I'm older now but still running....

Okay, I'm using a bit of hyperbole. Miss K and running should never be used in the same sentence.

What is the catalyst to my disgust with time, money and myself? Shopping! Shopping is my least favorite activity. And in the past few weeks, I've done more than my fair share.  Weddings, Easter, Birthdays, etc. The main focus of our shopping trip has been bridesmaids dresses.

My daughters and I have a particular taste and style, You could sum it up in one word, like bets in Vegas, Covered!

My daughters and I prefer shoulders, chests and knees COVERED! . The styles in the stores are more like the real estate emergency sell offs, The fashion industry believes they are in the real estate market and all they are having is a giant short sale! Everything is short, its short on the top or short on the bottom or short in the middle. I am thinking the "itsy bitsy teen weenie yellow polka dot bikin" is now consider a mid- driff!

I measured a white skirt hanging on a rack at Old Navy. It was no longer than the length of my hand, and did I mention to you, I have very small hands!

Where are the mothers that used to demand their kids dress respectably?
However, before you answer that, here's the real question of the day...

Why don't dresses have tops anymore? Most dresses stop two thirds of the way up! Is the economy so bad we can't afford the top of a dress?

Who would buy a car without a hood?

Imagine going downtown to the big auto dealer, and picking out a shiny new car, only to find out it doesn't come with a hood!

" Excuse me sir, isn't there suppose to be a hood on the car?"

"Oh, that's only for older models, no one wants to see their dirty old engines, but these younger ones can drive without hoods at least until they've had a few thousand miles put on 'em."

"But, I don't want to see the engine of anyone's car, not even mine. Engines should be covered".    As the car pulls out of the show room you realize not only the engine exposed,  but the trunk isn't even covered and you can see the spare tire.

In a surprised tone of voice,  "Isn't there supposed to be something over the trunk??? "

"Not anymore" he states with a great deal of confidence,  "this is all the rage, there's nothing wrong with exposed trunks, it helps people take better care of their car if they let it all hang out for everyone to see. "

" I don't care  how anyone's trunk is taken care of , it ought to be covered! "

So-  that's my take on the fashion industry. I'd protest, but "I'm running.... against the wind.
"
