My 85 yr old mom has alzheimer's and had to be placed in a nursing care facility this past spring. My parents have been married 62 years and my 86 yr old father is totally miserable. He has already said that having his grown-up offspring, their spouses, and over a dozen grand-kids around on Christmas won't help cheer him up.

Editor's Note: I can relate to your father, Nick, because after my husband died I went through that same thing and nothing or nobody could replace him. Thank goodness I came out of that, but still at times I wish to heck I had him back! But it was comforting at the party to have family close around me. If I was in my eighties like your Dad, though, I might not have been able to recover.

Sometimes, all it takes is a small gathering of friends or family to get our moods and perspectives back in place!

Editor's Note: Ain't that the truth! Thanks Dave.
