The Key to writing a good column is to finish the column before you post it.  My apologies to any loyal readers who have read unfinished business.  

Rumor has it: The best sunsets in the world are at Key West.  At least, the best sunsets on the east coast are in Key West.  The reason is, you can only see a sunset on the horizon line over the ocean and only Key West has the westerly view that allows that view on the east coast.  Maybe Kansas has a great view of the sunset but we ain't going to Kansas to watch a sunset, that would be silly.

My Lovely Wife Pat, our Strapping Son Jim and I went to Key West in February of this year to check this out.  We rented a camaro convertible, a nice family car and off we went.  There were some great sunsets with Corona, sailboats and Corona.  Was it the Corona and 80 degree weather that made them great?

This past week we went to a nice place called Castaways to watch the sunset.  The sun sets over Lake Ontario.  Since Lake Ontario is a Great big lake, there seemed to be a horizon line.  The sun set.  We watched.  Uh-oh.  It was a Great Sunset.

Was this sunset as good as Key West?  There's no Hemmingway museum in upstate NY selling all his great works; that might be a plus  (he's the best writer ever you know).

Did we waste $5000 and a week of our lives in Florida going to Key West, Deerfield Beach and Fort Lauderdale?  We drank marguaritas and body surfed and rode bikes along the beach in 80 degree weather in February for nothing?????    

Regarding sunsets, some day I'll write a book about Great Sunsets.  I'll include Castaways.  And Rocky Mountain in the Adirondaks.  Throw in The Sunset grill in Duck, NC.  Oh heck, maybe even Key West.  We'll see.
