Our youngest son Joe was home with us this past summer. He couldn't find a job in Accounting and had been accepted for a Masters program in Accounting so off to one more year of school and a little more debt. Since there was summer school, he couldn't work full time and couldn't find work part time.
Joe's not the type to protest so he just shrugged his shoulders and went to school and worked around our house for free. We needed a LOT of landscaping so he mulched and tore out bushes and planted bushes and flowers. We worked together for some of the work but Joe is a fast learner and can work like a demon.
I suppose he would have had more fun going to Wall Street to protest the greedy rich people; but his goal is actually to become a rich guy just like the ones on Wall Street, maybe a magnanimous rich guy.
Joe did a great job and our next door neighbor noticed so he asked if Joe was for hire. Sure is. Tim and Linda hired Joe to do some landscaping. They loved Joe's work and gave him more jobs to do. And more and more. So Joe was partially employed.
Another neighbor watched Joe for about a week. Joe noticed the guy watching but figured he was just nosy. The nosy neighbor approached Joe after about a week and inquired if he'd like some work. It turns out he has a business cleaning schools at night. Joe's interview was this guy observing Joe's work ethic. It seems he passed.
So off Joe went to his cleaning job while still working for Linda and Tim and us (for free). Joe spent the summer worrying if he'd ever find a job in accounting. He spent a lot of time going to various functions to meet people in the accounting field, he spent time preparing for interviews. His grades were very good since he always studied for tests and did his homework. As one would guess, Joe got an offer last week from a local accounting firm located right off rt 390.
Joe will probably never make it to Wall Street and protest. He's too busy making his dreams come true. Thus the saying: Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
